The musical influence of The Godfather of soul has paved the way for artists to follow in his footsteps. Born on May 3, 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina, James Brown musical career started at a young age. The harmonica his father gave him started his love for music. Although he did not have a well meaning childhood when his parents divorced at the age of 4, he used to entertain in camps during World war II. To support himself, he took on some tedious jobs when he was young. His music was purely his own, but with some influences from musicians like Tampa Red and Leo Austin. Having no proper guidance, the godfather of soul resorted to violence and even robbery. By the age of 16, he was already in reform school for robbery. During this time he was able to perform to musician Bobby Byrd. This paved the way for his musical career when Byrd and his relative helped him out. We owe to Brown the kind of music we enjoy today.
